PR Documents: Cover Letter
Posted by: site admin @ 10:43 am

Dear Dan,

I have an interesting job posting that I wish to respond to indicating my interest.  Is there a specific form for a cover letter?  What should I indicate in the letter that will distinguish my submission from others?

    Dear J,
This is an essential tool in your public relations effort to express to companies your interest in them, so that they consider you as a serious candidate for a position.

In fact, a valuable suggestion I have seen is that all submissions, email, hand-delivered and snail-mail should contain a cover letter as part of the document.  In email, it is the first page of the file.

There are several make sure it is right suggetions– have a specific person named as addressee (whenever possible), date, reference the position near the top, absolutely no spelling mistakes (watch out for spellcheck!), very readable font size and text style, almost conversational, keep the I’s to a minimum, sign your letter, and indicate what you are doing to follow up.

There are several good articles and websites that outline approaches for cover letters. The ones I like to highlight is
