Recently I discovered a book by Jason Ryan
Dorsey that you might enjoy even if you aren’t
a 20-something…My Reality Check Bounced:

The Twentysomething’s Guide to Cashing in on Your
Real-world dreams”, by Jason Ryan Dorsey,
Broadway Books, New York, 2007
.

Dorsey covers critical issues that may help us
figure out what each of us is looking for in our
careers.  Intelligently constructed with stories
to help make points he stresses that understanding
who you are and what your values are will position
you to figure out where you want your career to
develop

Ideal career

  Main responsibility

Who will you talk with most on the phone

Where will your education prepare and allow you

to become

What people will be on your team

What financial security do you desire

What major achievements you wish to accomplish

Ideal family life

What will the photos in your family room look like

What will you do with your family on Saturdays

What will be the view from your front door

What traditions you will start for your family

Ideal personal life

Physically how will you feel when you wake up

How will you relax each day

What will you do out of work

What will you do that makes you feel alive

What your life means

What will your friends and family say to strangers about you

  What will your greatest memory

How will you help people without showing up

What legacy will you leave to the world

Dorsey then leads us to develop how to identify
your passions and seek out mentors who are

essential for you professional growth.
